Help Give My Son His Sight Back: A Father’s Appeal

My son, Joel J. Jacob, is just 13 years old but for nearly five years now, he’s been fighting a quiet, difficult battle with a retina disorder that has slowly taken away his ability to see the world around him.

It started when he was only 8. Since then, we’ve gone from one hospital to another from Kaduna to Kano, to Abuja doing everything we can to find help. Along the way, generous friends and family have stood by us, and we’re grateful. But now, we’ve reached a point where our strength and resources are no longer enough.

Joel urgently needs a vitrectomy surgery, a specialized procedure that could restore his vision. Without it, he risks permanent blindness. The total cost for this surgery and the care that follows is $20,000 (₦33,586,600) far more than we can afford on our own.

Joel is not just a boy with a medical condition he’s a dreamer. He wants to become a computer engineer, a software developer he talks about building the technology of tomorrow. He sees a future filled with creativity and purpose, even though his physical sight is fading.

As a father, watching your child slowly lose their ability to see… and knowing you can’t fix it on your own… it’s heartbreaking. That’s why I’m asking please help us.

If you are unable to donate, we ask that you kindly share this message. The more people who see Joel’s story, the greater his chance of receiving the treatment he needs.

We believe Joel’s sight and his future can still be saved.
We just need help to make that hope a reality.
