Baby Miracle’s Story; A Call for Help

Baby Miracle Chikpe was born on August 8, 2022, to a young mother,Favour Chikpe, who was just 19 at the time. Due to financial struggles, Favour had been sent to live with her aunt in Anambra State. But things took a tragic turn when she was convinced by her child’s father, Confidence Amatobi, to leave with him to his village in Imo State without her aunt’s knowledge.

One night, while Favour briefly stepped out to ease herself, she heard her baby crying in distress. She rushed back in to find Confidence beating the baby’s tiny hand with a hanger, angry that the child was disturbing his sleep. Favour, threatened and terrified, watched helplessly as he tied the baby’s broken hand with sticks and locked them in the room for days, refusing to let her get help.

By the third day, the baby’s hand had started to rot and smell. Favour finally found the courage to alert neighbors, who got the local vigilante involved. Confidence was caught but later escaped. Favour and her baby, now in critical condition, were taken to FMC Owerri, where doctors had no choice but to amputate the decaying hand.

A kind woman, Mrs. Linda Ironsi, who met them at the hospital, helped rally for funds for their treatment. It was also discovered that Favour struggles with a mild mental health condition, making it hard for her to care for the baby on her own. Baby Miracle’s grandmother, Mrs. Joy Chikpe, took over full custody.

Sadly, the trauma didn’t end there. The grandmother had to abandon her small business and her other children to care for Miracle during his hospital stay. Now back in Lagos, life has been extremely difficult two of her younger children are out of school, and there’s no stable income to support Baby Miracle, who still requires constant medical checkups and care.

Baby Miracle will turn 3 years old this August, but his future hangs in the balance. What should have been a joyful childhood has been filled with pain, loss, and struggle.

This family desperately needs support for Baby Miracle’s care, for his education, and to help them rebuild a life of hope and dignity.
